A Balanced Education

"If you try to put into words what music is trying to say, then you have words, not music." ---Vladimir Ashkenazy
Learning Music - Not Just the Piano
The piano is only an instrument. It is just a tool for people to express the music inside of them. Implanting the muse in the student, and not teaching them how to press the black and white keys of the piano is of the utmost priority.
The only way to develop true musicality is by generating a genuine passion for music. If the parent can do nothing else but develop a deep love of music within the child, they will have succeeded 100%.
If they have a true passion for music, the child will seek their own music education. They will want to develop themselves as musical artists.
How to Generate Passion
To generate passion in others, develop it within yourself. Seek to understand music. Convey your knowledge and enthusiasm to your child and they will respond.
Or you can create a relationship between your child and someone else close to the family who is deeply passionate about music. Have them interact. Plant the seed of music in your child with the help of others.
Relating Music to Life
Help them understand music on a deeper level. Show them how to appreciate music and how to love it. Tell them stories about great musicians or great works of art. Tell them how music relates to your life and what it means to you. Show them how important music is to the world.
"My teacher was against tours as such; he simply didn't think that children should be exposed to that kind of life at the risk of missing the rest of their education."
---Rudolf Firkusny
